Job Descriptions for Student Body Officers
STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT: (6th graders only)
The president shall preside over the Student Council meetings, represent Young Elementary on various committees, and assist with the morning announcements and various activities on the Young campus.
VICE PRESIDENT: (5th or 6th graders only)
The vice president will assume the duties of the president in the president’s absence, assist the president in his/her duties, and assist with the morning announcements.
GRADE LEVEL REP: (4TH and 5th Graders only)
The grade level president represents and communicates the needs of the grade level to the Student Council and is a member of the rally committee.
SECRETARY: (5th or 6th Graders only)
The secretary will have the responsibility of recording the minutes of all student council meetings, taking attendance, and corresponding with other schools. He/she also assists with banking matters in regards to Student Body fundraisers.
GROUNDS/SAFETY COMMISSIONER: (4th, 5th or 6th graders only)
The Grounds Commissioner duties will be to help maintain the appearance of the school by promoting campus beautification, inspecting the grounds, and reporting the inspection results for the morning announcements.
RALLY COMMISSIONER: (5th or 6th graders only)
The Rally Commissioner oversees sign-making and other spirit-related activities for rallies and games, and assists in rally planning and set-up.
ATHLETICS COMMISSIONER: (5th or 6th graders only)
The Athletics Commissioner will assist Young’s Athletic Director in preparing, maintaining, and distributing all team uniforms and equipment as well as preparing for home games. The commissioner will place playground equipment on the black top each morning. He/she will also read sports results on the morning announcements.
COMMUNITY EVENTS COMMISSIONER: (5th or 6th graders only)
The Community Events commissioner will work closely with students and staff for community events (such as kids day, canned food drive, etc.) This person will also work on flyers and communication regarding such events.
LOST AND FOUND COMMISSIONER: (4th, 5th and 6th Grade)
The lost and found commissioner will be in charge of regularly cleaning and organizing the lost and found storage area located in the MPR. The commissioner will also be in charge of laying out the lost and found 3 times a year before it is donated.

Student Council Election
Information for Candidates
- Campaign applications with necessary signatures must be turned into Ms. Vilhauer in Room #11 by January 30th, 2026.
- Two copies of your campaign speech must be turned into Ms. Vilhauer by January 30th, 2026 for review. Speeches must be typed. See Ms. Vilhauer if you do not have access to a computer at home.
- Students can make a Maximum of 1 poster. The poster will be turned into Ms. Vilhauer as soon as the permission slip is turned in. Posters will be reviewed by Ms. Vilhauer and will then be placed on walls for display.
The Election Speech Assembly will be February 6th in the MPR at 8:40 Campaign speeches are limited to TWO MINUTES. Other students may not be involved in your speech (This is a solo performance).
Please refrain from the following:
- Passing out gifts (i.e. candy, pencils, etc.) during the campaign.
- Throwing things such as candy or toys to the audience.
- Making unreasonable campaign promises (example: extra recess or snack bar every day, etc.)
Voting will take place directly after the Election Speech Assembly, and new officers will be announced before the end of the day!
